Third Sunday of Easter (Year A)

Luke 24:13-35 (TPT [1] ; adapted): Later that Sunday, two of Jesus’ disciples were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus, a journey of about seven miles. 14–15 They were in the midst of a discussion about all the events of the last few days when Jesus walked up and accompanied them on their journey. 16 They were unaware that it was Jesus walking alongside them, for God prevented them from recognizing him. 17–18 Jesus said to them, “You seem to be in a deep discussion about something. What are you talking about, so sad and gloomy?” They stopped, and the one named Cleopas answered, “Haven’t you heard? He saw and believed. 9 As yet, they didn’t understand the scriptu

Matthew 27.57-66 (TIB [1] ): When evening fell, a wealthy man from Arimathea named Joseph, who had become a disciple of Jesus, 58 came to request the body of Jesus; Pilate issued an order for its release. 59 Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it in fresh linen 60 and laid it in his own tomb, which had been hewn out of rock. Then Joseph rolled a huge stone across the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 But Mary of Magdala and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.  62 The next day — the one following the Day of Preparation — the chief priests and the Pharisees called at Pilate’s residence 63 and said, “We recall that, while he was still alive, the impostor made the claim, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 Therefore, please issue an order to keep the tomb under surveillance until the third day. Otherwise, Jesus’ disciples might go and steal his body and tell the people, ‘Jesus has been raised from the dead!’ This final deception would be worse than the firs
