Here are some pictures showing the details of my Peterson Deluxe 5 S System Pipe. I’ve wanted a Deluxe System Pipe for a long time now and never thought I’d ever own one. This is an “estate pipe” (that’s a nice way for saying it’s used) in excellent condition. The 5 S shape is pretty much the same as the 305 shape in Peterson’s Standard System Pipe. I have one of those in the rusticated version (which, too, was a gift). Before I get to the pictures, though, here’s some information about Peterson’s System Pipes. In 1890, Charles Peterson patented the “System” pipe and in 1898 he patented the “Peterson Lip” or “P-Lip.” A Peterson System pipe has an extra chamber in the shank that collects moisture. This keeps the moisture from traveling up the stem and into your mouth. The Peterson-Lip is a complete redesign of the traditional pipe mouthpiece (called a “fishtail”). Instead of the hole being at the back of the mouthpiece, which can lead to “tongue bite” if you’re smoking...

Here are some of the gifts I received this Christmas (and for which I’m so unworthy and very grateful)! The mola’s from Panama and features a series of pipes! According to my daughter, the women are seen smoking pipes while making beautiful molas. The cap’s an official Doctor Who beanie (in striped blue, of course) with a TARDIS patch! The razor’s a 1965 (my birth year) Gillette twist-to-open (TTO) double-edge safety razor. And the pipe’s a Peterson DeLuxe System Pipe in the 5s shape. It’s the first day of the 2016! It’s hard to believe that we’ve made it through another year and we’re still here. No matter what the naysayers said our President isn’t the Antichrist; Jesus didn’t come back; the world didn’t end; the country didn’t dissolve into chaos; etc. (Please keep these things in mind when the doomsday prophets (or is that “profits) start to spout their predictions in the coming year!) There are things we need to resolve to do this coming year, though—take steps to curb gun violence; put an end to for-profit prisons; a better environmental plan; end poverty; a one-payer health-care system for everyone; etc. While those are enormous (but doable if we work together), what about us as individuals? As Communities? What changes can we make to become more loving? More caring? More selfless? More giving? What can we do to be Christ to those we meet? To find Christ within them? One thing I want to do this year is study more about the world of Celtic followers ...
