Q & R — Holy Days

Several people have asked why I don’t give my thoughts concerning the Lectionary readings during certain seasons of the liturgical calendar — most notably, Christmas, Holy Week, and the Easter Season. My reason is simply this:

These stories don’t need my thoughts.

These stories need the Spirit of God to breathe into us, the readers, their own Life. Like the first day of Creation (Genesis 1) or Jesus’ first appearance to his disciples after his resurrection (John 20.22), the Spirit is Life and within that Life is the power to create change in hearts, minds, and lives. My thoughts would just muddle things up. These stories are the very Life of the Age themselves. May the Wild Goose, the Spirit of God, move through us, speak to us, and change us for the glory of God.

With our lives then infused with God’s Life — the Life of the Age — and with the Grace, Strength, and Love of God’s Spirit flowing through us, may we become Christ to the world and implement God’s Realm of Peace and Love in every corner of creation.
